Torino, or Turin, is an often overlooked Italian holiday destination although the city is quite famous for the Shroud of Turin. A hotel a Torino is an incredible bargain compared to the more popular Italian cities but few people outside of Italy know what all Torino has to offer. There is the Museo Egizio, a large Egyptian museum and of course, the Shroud of Turin which is not displayed to the public very often. Torino is full of Baroque buildings and beautiful piazzas, and a wealth of cafes so walking the city is quite enjoyable.

Bologna is also an overlooked, but very affordable, Italian holiday destination. A hotel a Bologna will put you in the center of Italy’s best cuisine.  Bologna has a compact medieval city center with several beautiful churches and central squares, lined with arcades where cafes abound. Many visitors like to climb the steep staircase to the top of a surviving medieval tower for great views of the city.

Italy has a large choice of accommodation options. Some, like those in Venice and Rome, are quite expensive while others, like those in Bologna and Torino, are great bargains. You need to decide what part of Italy you would like to visit and budget for your holiday accordingly. You certainly won’t miss museums or cafes if you choose to skip Rome.
